The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has officially handed over two petrol-engine vehicles converted into electric-powered ones to the Kwara State Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Technology, marking a major step in the state’s drive toward green technology and sustainable innovation.
Presenting the vehicles on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, the Chairman of KWASU Hold-co, Professor Kenneth Adeyemi, described the development as a landmark achievement that would not only promote environmental sustainability but also add economic value to society.
Professor Adeyemi expressed gratitude to the Ministry for trusting KWASU with the project, assuring that more vehicles under the conversion programme would be ready by September this year.
He also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for giving the institution the platform to showcase its technological capacity.
“This seamless conversion is a proof of concept of the technological and innovative possibilities at Kwara State University, supported by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology. The manual for the vehicles’ operations and maintenance is ready, and our team is set to train drivers who will be using them,” Adeyemi said.
Receiving the vehicles, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation, and Technology, Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, lauded the KWASU team for its ingenuity and hard work, noting that the successful conversion reflects the state’s commitment to promoting innovation-driven solutions.
