A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Yusuf Olaolu Ali has charged peace scholars to be proactive in preventing conflict rather than reactionary in conflict resolution. He made this known in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital when the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies(CPSS) University of Ilorin conferred him with the award of Peace Ambassador.
Prof Ali who praised the Centre for all its activities, manpower development and contribution to Peace sustenance in Nigeria noted that the Centre for Peace University of Ilorin is well situated to be an institution that mitigates communal issues such as chieftaincy and communal clash in a way to prevent violent clash.
In his speech, The Director of the CPSS, Prof. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu said the choice of SAN Ali and other Awardees was after due diligence in ensuring that all recipients passed the screening criteria to qualify for Fellows and Peace Ambassadors of the Center for Peace.
Jawondo further noted that the centre’s Award-giving is a way to acknowledge and encourage the recipients’ positive contribution to conflict prevention, conflict resolution, and conflict management in Nigeria and beyond .
The Centre for Peace, Unilorin had during its 2024 Alumni day and Award Ceremony which held at the University Auditorium on the 24th of April constituted an Alumni Body , and conferred Award
