
Kwara Auditor General advocates transparency, accountability in govt operations

The newly inaugurated Auditor General of Kwara State, Mallam Fatai Olajide, has called for enhanced adherence to due process, transparency, accountability, and prudence in the management of government affairs.
Olajide made the call during a series of marathon advocacy engagements with senior government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mamman Saba Jibril; Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru; Accountant General, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Sani; Permanent Secretary (Service Welfare) in the Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Mercy Shittu; and the Permanent Secretary of the State Civil Service Commission, Alhaja Jimoh Kafayat.
The Auditor General said the meetings demonstrated the administration’s commitment to promoting financial discipline and due process across all sectors.
He stressed the importance of strict compliance with existing financial regulations, underscoring that transparency and accountability are essential pillars of good governance.
Olajide also reiterated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s unwavering commitment to these principles as captured in the administration’s policy agenda.
Seeking the cooperation of all principal officers, he urged them to uphold and enforce the laws governing public resource management.
He noted that fostering a culture of accountability not only strengthens government operations but also builds greater public trust.
Olajide assured the officials of professional support from his office, pledging to enforce financial discipline and ensure adherence to all relevant regulations.
He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting effective resource management in strict alignment with legal frameworks.
In response, the officials commended the Auditor General’s initiative and expressed their full support.
They pledged to uphold transparency, accountability, and due process within their respective departments, reaffirming their shared responsibility for ensuring sound financial management in the state.
