In a significant gesture aimed at alleviating economic hardship, 300 beneficiaries across all political zones of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State today received financial assistance through the Owo Isowo empowerment programme.
This initiative was spearheaded by the Kwara State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Mustapha Sulaiman Ishowo.
The event, which took place at Pakata LGEA Primary School, saw each beneficiary receiving a sum of ten thousand naira as a palliative measure to cushion the effects of the ongoing economic downturn in the country.
The programme is part of a broader effort to support small-scale entrepreneurs and vulnerable members of the community during these challenging times.
In his remarks, the Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Social Investment Programme, Dr. Abdulwasiu Tejidini, praised the initiative, describing it as a complementary effort to the state government’s ongoing empowerment schemes.
He commended Alhaji Ishowo for his proactive approach in supporting the people of Ilorin West, noting that such initiatives are crucial in reducing the impact of economic challenges on the most vulnerable.
The Ilorin West Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Sulaiman Tejidini, highlighted the timeliness and importance of the empowerment programme.
He acknowledged the growing economic difficulties faced by many residents and urged them to continue supporting the APC in upcoming elections.
According to him, a strong voter turnout for the party’s chairmanship and councillorship candidates would ensure the continued delivery of democratic dividends to the local government.
In his remarks, the APC Secretary in the state, Alhaji Mustapha Suleiman Ishowo, revealed that this was the third edition of the empowerment series aimed at assisting the people of Ilorin West.
He reiterated his commitment to continuing such initiatives, emphasizing that they are crucial for fostering economic resilience and self-reliance among the local population.
Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the financial support.
Lukman Ayuba, a cobbler, and Mrs. Ayo Yekini, a bread seller, both shared how the ten thousand naira would be invested in expanding their petty businesses, thereby enhancing their livelihoods.
