The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has sued an offender who assaulted a KWARTMA officer on duty at Alore junction in Ilorin. The incident which occured on Saturday 10th of August,2024 has one Mr. Aponikoro Azeez, a male, Adult, assaulted a staff of KWARTMA HRTS Abdulkarim A, while performing his lawful duty along Alore Area of Ilorin, on the said date.
Having flagged down by the officer of the Authority to correct and ask the motorcycle operator to make a U turn towards acceptable direction, Apanikoro got down from the motorbike and accused the officer of disrupting his movement and subsequently launched punches on the officer, squeezed and tore his uniform.
It took the intervention of members of the community and the police to get hold of the culprit after which he was taken to the police station.
Meanwhile, the Ag. CEO KWARTMA, Engineer Bamidele Michael frawned at the incident and charged the public to always respect and protect people working for their safety and comfort.
He also informed that the Authority will ensure that the offender is prosecuted in accordance with the law to serve as deterrent to others that may wish to do same in the future.
He added that the Authority will not fold its harms and watch its officers being assaulted by some irresponsible members of the society.
Bamidele further admonished members of the public to cooperate with KWARTMA, other security agencies and see them as carrying out social services in their interest. He affirmed that the Authority will not be discouraged with any form of distraction, rather will continue to embark on her mission of protecting lives and property of the motoring public.
