As part of efforts to ensure fair hearing and justice for aggrieved parties in the forthcoming Local Government elections in Kwara, the State Chief Judge, Honorable Justice Abiodun Adebara, on Thursday inaugurated two panels that would examine complaints that may arise from the electoral process.
During the swearing-in ceremony, which took place on Thursday, 5th September 2024, at the Conference Hall of the Kwara State High Court, Justice Adebara said that the inauguration of the Tribunal was very important to help assuage anxieties and calm frayed nerves.
According to him, “The Kwara State Local Government Electoral Law K32 Laws of Kwara State 2006 (as amended) contains clear and unequivocal provisions for entertaining elections petitions that may arise from the Local Government Elections in Kwara State.”
While describing members of the committee as individuals of proven integrity with vast knowledge of relevant laws, Justice Adebara charged members of the two panels to see their new task as a call to service and ensure that the oath of office remains their guide.
“I urge you to see this as a call to service and to know that people are watching, all eyes are on you. Your oath of office should remain your guide,” he said.
Chief Magistrate Jibril Bio Salihu was named the Chairman of the first panel, consisting of Chief Magistrate Mohammed Kola Aluko and Magistrate Adeniyi Oluwaseyi Moses as members, while Chief Magistrate Abubakar Mohammed Ndakene was named the Chairman of the second panel, comprising Magistrate Adebola Mercy Feyisayo and Judge AbdulHamid Yusuf Olatunji as members.
The Chief Judge, therefore, urged all members of the Bar appearing before the Tribunal to make excellence their watchword and behave in the best tradition of their noble profession.
