The Nigeria Customs Service has handed over the seizure of one thousand one hundred and fifty three parcels of Cannabis Sativa to the National Drugs Law Enforcement agency (NDLEA) in Kwara State.
Speaking with newsmen at the handling over the items, the Comptroller General of the Custom, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who spoke through the Customs Area Controller Kwara State Command, Comptroller Faith Mathew-Ojeifo held in Ilorin, the kwara state capital.
Comptroller Mathew-Ojeifo said cannabis sativa was intercepted on one Daf Truck with registration number T-25750-LA
on the third of last month along Yamboa Axis of Bukuro, Baruten local government area of the state.
He said while the search was ongoing, the driver abandoned the truck and fled into the bush to evade arrest; this action on the part of the driver triggered the interest of the officers and discovered concealment.
According to him, the Duty Paid value of the seized drugs is fifty-seven million, six hundred and sixty-eighty thousand, four hundred and forty-eight naira.
Comptroller Mathew-Ojeifo explained that the handing over of the items is to foster interagency collaboration between Nigeria Customs Service and the sister agencies in line with the policy thrust of Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
While receiving the items, the kwara state Commander of the National Drugs Law Enforcement agency (NDLEA), Alhaja Ayoola Popoola Fatimah appreciated the Custom for handling over the enormous cannabis to the agency.
