WALK WAYS AND KERBS ARE MEANT FOR PEDESTRIANS, NOT FOR PARKING, HAWKING AND SITTING, KWARTMA WARNS
The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has expressed its displeasure over the attitudes of some members of the public who have converted the walkways, Kerbs and laybys across Ilorin metropolis to parking lots and platform for displaying their wares.
This was made available to the public by the Ag. Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Engr. Bamidele Michael. He cited Part II, number 11(a) of KWARTMA established Law which prohibits the act and gives the Authority the power to *”control traffic and enforce State and National laws that govern use and operations of vehicles on the road in the State* .
It is therefore important for members of the public especially the motorists to be aware that Kerbs, walkways and laybys are restricted from parking, permanently.
It is also imperative for traders across the State to desist from sitting or carrying out trading activities on the walkways and kebs as these facilities are strictly meant for pedestrians’ usage to enhance safety of lives and property. Bamidele further remarked that the Authority will henceforth be impounding vehicles found packed on the Walkways and Kerbs and be fined accordingly.
The Ag. CEO praised His Excellency, Mallam Abdurahman Abdulrasaq CON, for the rehabilitation and construction of new roads across the state which will contribute to ease of movement and boost socioeconomic activities of the state upon completion. He therefore, sought for the cooperation from all affected residents and stakeholders in the authority’s bid of making the road free and safe for all.
