The Kwara State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to hand over Omu-Aran General Hospital to Thomas Adewumi University for use as its teaching hospital.
The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Health in Ilorin, was attended by key stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, described the initiative as a significant step toward transforming healthcare in Kwara State, particularly in the Kwara South region.
She emphasized that the collaboration would help train qualified healthcare professionals to serve the local community, the state, and beyond.
Dr. El-Imam noted that this agreement is the second of its kind between the state government and a private tertiary institution, following a similar MoU with Al-Hikmah University a few months ago.
She also highlighted improvements in healthcare indices under the current administration and expressed gratitude to the Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University for his investment in the state’s healthcare sector.
In his remarks, the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Yahya Alebiosu, praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritizing healthcare development in Kwara South.
He described the partnership as a bold initiative that would enhance medical service delivery in the region.
The Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University, Chief Johnson Adewumi, also commended the government for its commitment to realizing the project.
According to our correspondent, Rosheed Okiki, the MoU was signed on behalf of the Kwara State Government by Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, while the Vice-Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University, Professor Francisca Oladipo, signed for the institution.
