Anti party: Expel Akogun Oyedepo now, Kunle Sulyman urges APC
By Mahmood Olayinka Alaya
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lawyer Kunle Sulyman, has urged the party leadership in Kwara State to invoke its constitutional provisions and expel Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo for engaging in anti-party activities.
Speaking at a political gathering in Faagba, Ilorin, Lawyer Sulyman, who chairs the Governor’s Advisory Council, condemned Oyedepo’s formation of a parallel political group known as the Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM) within the Kwara State APC.
He described the move as an act of blatant indiscipline and a direct affront to the party’s unity.
“The spate of indiscipline must end. Nobody should openly work against the party that made them. If you’re saying you’ll unseat your own party in the next election, you’re technically declaring your exit. Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo has gone ahead to appoint chairmen across the sixteen local governments for his group. That’s why I’m calling on the Governor and party leadership to invoke the constitution and expel him immediately. Enough is enough. O to ge!”
Lawyer Sulyman, who also chairs the AA Elders Forum, dismissed claims that anyone could singly claim ownership of the ‘O to ge’ movement, emphasizing that “O to ge belongs to the people, not an individual.”
He criticized Oyedepo and his supporters for branding Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq as a “sole administrator,” stressing that major decisions in the state have always been made collectively.
“When the Governor came on board, he set up the Governor’s Advisory Council. I was unanimously chosen as Chairman. Nurudeen Mohammed was selected as Vice Chairman, Oloriewe Raheem Adedoyin as Secretary, and Moshood Mustapha (MM) as a member. We collectively advise the Governor. So how can anyone call him a sole administrator?”
On the growing defection of opposition members into the APC, Lawyer Sulyman attributed the wave to President Bola Tinubu’s impressive performance since taking office.
“The President has rolled out numerous palliatives to ease the hardship caused by fuel subsidy removal. Despite challenges, fuel is cheaper in Nigeria than many parts of the world,” he said.
Lawyer Sulyman asserted that Tinubu’s leadership saved Nigeria from economic collapse and that the country is now on the path to recovery and growth.
“With the progress under Tinubu, his re-election in 2027 is already secured. There is no opposition strong enough to challenge him,” Sulyman boasted.
He also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for transforming Kwara State through the ongoing urban renewal projects, adding that anyone visiting Kwara today would immediately notice the unprecedented development across sectors.
He also advocated for the shift of power to the northern part of the state, emphasizing that the region had only held the governorship for a brief period of two years during the tenure of Shaaba Lafiagi, before his administration was abruptly terminated by military intervention.
Lawyer Kunle Sulyman argued that, in the spirit of equity, justice, and fairness, it was only right that the north be given another opportunity to produce the next governor, thereby correcting the historical imbalance and promoting unity within the state.
