The possibility of having more women in Governance and leadership to attain the 35% affirmative action in gender policy, can only be attained if more women are mobilised to join politics and equipped with strong knowledge on leadership.
This was the position of the National leader of Women in Politics Forum (WIPF) Barr. Ebere Ifendu, at the Young Women Political Academy in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital.
Speaking further, the National Coordinator of the 100 Women Lobby Group, Dr. Felicia Onibon while Speaking on the history of Nigerian women in politics, noted that women in leadership position is not alien as way back as pre colonial era, the traditional system had involvement of women in politics, policy, and communal security with notable contributions from the likes of Queen Amina in the North, Iyadoles in the Old Western Nigeria, the forums of Ada( Firstborn daughters) in Eastern Nigeria) and many more.
Dr Onibon commended Kwara State for spear heading the participation of youth and women in Governance, citing a good number of representation of women in the state Assembly, and hhaving a young female minister from Kwara State.
On her part Charity Anaja, a Women Mobilization Expert who taught on “Mobilizing Women in Political Parties and the Community” said women must do away with the belief that women are women’s enemies and emphasised the need for collective effort especially among women to run for office, support and mobilise people to help more women win elections.
The forum then stressed the need to catch women young, and advised women to start by influence cchange from their families, communities, associations, schools, as women are more sensitive to pain points.
